Cannabis January 2026 Newsletter
In this month’s newsletter, learn more about the following:
Quarterly Newsletter
The cannabis-related newsletter from the Cannabis and Alcohol Regulation Division (CARD) will be moving to a quarterly newsletter. If you have questions about any changes, please call (406) 444-0596.
Metrc Support Ticket Process Update
Effective January 12, 2026, the Cannabis and Alcohol Regulation Division, in collaboration with Metrc, is changing the approach to Metrc support ticket submissions related to testing issues.
Going forward, only the licensee that incorrectly submitted Lab Test Batches and/or selected the incorrect test sample package may submit a Metrc support ticket for resolution on its own behalf. This update ensures direct communication between Metrc and the licensee requiring Metrc assistance.
To help prevent these errors, we strongly encourage all licensees to complete the “Understanding Common Errors in Testing” training available through Metrc Learn.
Milligram Change in July
House Bill 636 has an effective date of July 1, 2026. This bill changed the serving size for edible products from 10 milligrams to 5 milligrams. Labels and packages are required to reflect this.
