April 19: Budtender Day!

4/20 is a few days away!

With a potential increase in marijuana sales, CARD would like to remind those working with customers to be mindful of some information from the worker permit training.

No sales to underage or those without valid identification:

No one under the age of 21 may be sold adult-use marijuana or marijuana products. When checking identification, also check expiration dates or if the ID has been altered. Expired and altered forms of identification are not valid.

While medical cards have photos on them, you should check the person’s identification to confirm the information as well.

Digital IDs

Digital IDs have already been authorized. ARM 42.39.409(12)(a) states,

“A marijuana dispensary licensee and its employees must refuse to sell marijuana or marijuana products to any consumer unless the consumer possesses and presents one of the following forms of valid and unexpired photo identification showing that the consumer is 21 years of age or older: a driver’s license or temporary driver’s permit issued by Montana or any other state or territory of the United States, including any state or territory that has authorized digital driver’s licenses.

However, the business will still need to verify if the license has expired or not.

Check daily and monthly limits of medical card:

When serving medical cardholders, always verify their daily and monthly purchase limits to ensure regulatory compliance. If a requested purchase exceeds their available allotment, proactively inform them of the limit and advise on the maximum amount they are eligible to purchase at that time.

Do not exceed purchasing limits:

By Montana law, one ounce of usable marijuana may be sold to either an adult-use customer or a medical cardholder (if their card limit allows) at a time.

One (1) ounce of usable marijuana is equal to:

  • 1 ounce of marijuana flower.
  • 800 milligrams of THC in marijuana products, including edibles.
  • 8 grams/8 milliliters of marijuana concentrate.

Don’t forget the exit bag:

Montana law requires that all marijuana and marijuana products be placed in a child-resistant exit package at the point-of-sale.
