It is an easy-to-use website that updates once a month. Unclaimed property listings from 37 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Alberta, Canada are available for searches on the site.

Filing Deadlines

May 1 – All life insurance companies

Nov 1 –All other unclaimed property holders

If either deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, reports will be accepted 1 business day following the deadline, without accruing interest.

We no longer accept unclaimed property reports on magnetic media such as compact discs, diskettes, tapes, or USB devices.

Free software for electronically sending your holder reports can be found at the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) website.

To submit your NAUPA formatted text file to us, use File Transfer Service (FTS) which can be found within your Montana ePass account.  Electronic filing is secure, encrypted, accurate, and the most efficient way to report unclaimed property.

Instructions for submitting your holder report:

Go to: http://transfer.mt.gov to send your files. (Create an ePass account if you do not already have one by clicking here.)

Once logged into ePass:

Select “Send a new file or files.” You can submit up to ten files at a time.

Use the Browse button to locate your file(s) and select “Add to File List."

Use the Continue button to move to the next screen and select the type of property you are reporting (UCH or UCR).

Your files are now in transit. You will be returned to the first screen where you will see the status of your delivery.

Please do not encrypt or password protect your submission. FTS encrypts your file automatically.
