Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) is a free online service that is available to taxpayers. There are two main ways that taxpayers can use TAP services.

  • Manage Your Tax Account. Taxpayers who have previously filed a Montana tax return—whether full-year residents, part-year residents, or nonresidents—can register and set up an account in TAP. The account allows you to do a variety of tasks, including filing returns, paying taxes and fees, updating your personal information and more.

  • File your Montana Tax Return using TAP/MT Direct.  All taxpayers, including those who have not previously filed a Montana tax return, can elect to use TAP for the purpose of filing a tax return. It is not necessary to set up an account to do this. Form 2, 2EZ, 2EC & 2M are available online.
